White Mountain Community Health Center was formed in 2001 as the result of a merger between the Children & Youth Project and the Family Health Centre. The Children & Youth Project was founded in 1969 to provide basic primary care to Mount Washington Valley children. The Family Health Centre was founded in 1983 to provide family planning and pre-natal care to women, and to reduce teen pregnancy. Both were non-profits intended to serve those who could not otherwise afford health care.
The two organizations merged to more comprehensively meet Mount Washington Valley’s health needs, adding adult primary care for men and women. Over the years, White Mountain Community Health Center has added many programs and services to meet community health needs, such as our children's dental program and mental health counseling, and continues to grow as new needs emerge. Most recently, in 2013 the health center added a navigator program to provide free help to area residents enrolling in the new health coverage programs created by the Affordable Care Act.
